With the world seemingly ready to jump feet-first into the world of cryptocurrency, Amazon are ready to get involved in the scene and launch their own crypto token in 2022.
The details at this juncture are as yet unclear, but it appears as though Amazon are setting up a blockchain in preparation of launching their own digital currency.
An article published by FinTech Magazine confirmed that the company has posted a job ad for a new 'Head of Digital Currency and Blockchain'.
What is Amazon looking for?
The employment advertisement suggests that Amazon are looking for an 'experienced product leader to develop Amazon's Digital Currency and Blockchain strategy and product roadmap'.
It's believed that this move is a direct response to increased competition from other tech giants like Meta/Facebook who have recruited their own team of experts to create a blockchain concept.
Google has also recently formed a partnership with Bakkt, opening the way for crypto acceptance into its Google Pay app.
When is Amazon launching their crypto token?
2022 is set to be the year when Amazon launches their own cryptocurrency, but there have been no clear details over exactly when in the year that will be.
It's expected that customers will be able to use the Amazon Crypto Token whilst shopping on the Amazon website, although how long this will take to implement is also unclear.
Blockchain and cryptocurrencies are still in the very early stages and there is plenty of room for further improvements, especially in terms of user convenience.
Amazon has actually looked into such a project in the past, offering roles to blockchain experts previously, although the projects were considerably more low-key than the one which envelopes the Amazon Crypto Token at this time.
Amazon are calling their blockchain 'Amazon Managed Blockchain' and are already providing a lot of information about the concept on their website.
