ICP Connecting Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Now Solana

ICP’s latest milestone—integrating Solana into its Chain Fusion framework—marks a major leap toward a truly multichain Web3. This update enables smart contracts on the Internet Computer (called canisters) to natively interact with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and now Solana, without relying on traditional bridges. The result is a secure, scalable, and decentralized foundation for building cross-chain applications that span DeFi, gaming, identity, and more.

Key Ideas

  1. Chain Fusion now supports native, bridgeless interoperability with Solana, allowing canisters to directly sign Solana transactions using threshold Ed25519 cryptography. This enables seamless swaps (e.g., SOL for BTC) and multichain logic without custodial risk.

  2. The SOL RPC canister and decentralized governance via the Network Nervous System (NNS) ensure secure, reliable communication with Solana’s network while unlocking new design space for DeFi, gaming, and identity apps
